This is something I have been waiting for a long time. The official uTorrent App for Android has finally arrived and available for download in Google Play Store. I have used some of the third party apps for downloading Torrents but could not find any to be the most reliable and full featured in performance as compared to what we get in the Windows uTorrent or BitTorrent Desktop client.
And to be honest I have not yet downloaded a single file completely on my Android Tab using any of the third party torrent downloader app for Android because any of them were not up to the mark in providing a perfect torrent manager and downloader.
But now we have an official Android App from uTorrent after a long time and I must say the wait has truly paid off. uTorrent for Android is the best Android Torrent downloader App and is indeed the most beautiful app if I have to talk about the UI for this app. The app together packs many features and all of them are of use. It’s not the final version and is it is in beta mode and so we expect lot more addition to it in coming updates. But what we have now is enough to get started with the App. After using uTorrent on my Android device for a couple of days and downloading some stuff, I am writing a full review of Official uTorrent Android App.
User Interface (UI)
The user interface(UI) as I said is truly amazing. No doubt the developers of this app have done a tremendous job over the User Interface. It’s simple, sleek, easy to understand and beautiful in looks. Every option is visible in front of you. You won’t get any difficulty to find any of the options in uTorrent Android App.
Functions and Features
The basic feature of downloading torrents works just fine. No compromise or any kind of malfunction over downloading speed like what we see in the third party apps. Once added, the torrent download gets started quickly.
You can pause and start the download at any moment without any problem. The download bar shows the progress of download. Completed file progress is shown in percentage with ETA. Tapping on the file will pop up options Pause, Files and Remove the torrent. On the right side, details like Size, Date of Addition, number of Files in torrent and Peers are shown. What I missed in this is exact size of downloaded file. It appears in percentage only and not numbers.
The search query done in the app opens up the default browser of your device and searches the web using Google for the torrent file. The torrent file when downloaded automatically gets added to uTorrent. There is no inbuilt search engine for torrents.
New Torrents can be added from the top right corner. The option appears next to the Power down button with Plus sign. URL of the torrent file can be added by tapping on that button.
Settings and Options
The settings pane of uTorrent Android App can be found on the left bottom of the screen. On tapping you get options to Limit and maximize Download and Upload Speed of the torrent. Select to Auto start the application when device starts. Subscriptions option allows you to select and deselect to view the featured content of BitTorrent.
Featured torrents from BitTorrent can be downloaded and refreshed from the Feeds menu. Also you can add a new subscription to it. Power button appears on every tab and screen of the App. This is supposed to turn off the application. It appears on the top right corner of uTorrent Android app.
Overall the functionality of the app is perfect. No issue with it. The app runs smoothly without any lag or problem and downloads the torrents at the best speed available. The UI is really impressive. Most of the necessary feature is provided and the app is bug free at the moment.
As I mention the exact number of downloaded file is not displayed but percentage. This sometimes annoys me as to how much exactly the file is downloaded. But not a really big issue as the app does the main function smoothly. Native search engine in the app to search torrent is something missing and should be added in the next update or the final release.
Overall uTorrent App for Android is the best app to download torrents on your Android device. It functions well enough to impress you and satisfies the need of a torrent client. It’s definitely a must have app if you download all your stuffs using torrents. I would rate it 4 out of 5 since it is in beta mode. I am looking forward to see some new features in the coming update. And hopefully we won’t be disappointed. The App is available in Google Play Store for free. Hit the link below to download it.
