Google has partnered with the Asus to launch an under $ 200 tablet named Galaxy Nexus which will be in direct competition with the Kindle Fire. Earlier Google’s Andy Rubin has claimed to be the “double down” effort of Google to enter into the tablet industry which is currently dominated in every dimension by Apple.
According to the latest rumors the tablet is going to be priced at either $ 149 or $ 199 and will be a 7″ Inch tablet. The tablet will of course not be competing with the iPad or the Galaxy Tab but it will definitely raise some stir in the low end segment. The Google Nexus tablet is rumored to be a lower specd version of the Android tablet Asus MeMo 370T, which is also a good combination of price and performance as it has a quad core chip and priced at just $ 249.
Android and Me, the popular Android website have claimed that according to some sources in Asus the tablet will be priced at $ 149 and will have the Qualcomm processor instead of the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor to keep the price in control. While another popular site TheVerge, claims that according to some unnamed source the tablet will be priced at $ 199.
The Google Nexus tablet will be launched at the Google I/O 2012 event in June, or at the CTIA Wireless show in May. The device will of course be shipped with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
