Although previously claimed to be very promising, the projector phone segment didn’t really took off due to the poor performance of the devices. Samsung the Korean giant is all set to re enter the segment with a brand new projector phone named Samsung Galaxy Beam, and yes it belongs to the super popular Galaxy Series.
The device comes with a pico projector and it has been announced officially by Samsung just 24 hours before the Mobile World Congress starts. We also expect to see some more promising devices being launched in the Mobile World Congress.
So lets see what this device really has to offer :
Processor & OS :
The Samsung Galaxy Beam comes with 1.0Ghz dual-core processor and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The latest version of the Android i.e ICS is not packed with this device and hence we can say that the projector is somewhat average in this segment.
Touch screen, Display resolution, size and PPI :
The device has an impressive 4.0-inch Super AMOLED screen with 800×480 resolution which is very decent for a pleasurable viewing experience.
RAM, Inbuilt Storage and expandable memory :
Samsung Galaxy Beam has 8GB of internal memory with a 32GB micro SD slot. What is really impressive is that this device sports a massive 6 GB RAM which we think should be verified but if this is true than it will be the biggest RAM any smartphone has had.
The device has 5 MP AutoFocus rear camera with flash and a 1.3 MP camera.
Weight & Dimensions :
The device has 64.2 x 124 x 12.5mm dimension and weighs about 145.3 g.
The device sports a 2000mAh battery which is sufficiently big enough to power the projector.
This is probably the main feature of the device. The Samsung Galaxy Beam comes with a Pico Projector which can produce 15 lumens of brightness which is not the top of the line but still decent. Samsung didn’t really mention the resolution and PPI of the image it can produce but the device can produce images upto 50 inches of size with some adjustments.
Pricing & Availablility :
There hasnt been any official word from Samsung abut this device but a standard HSPA radio indicates that Samsung is looking for a reasonably wide distribution.

Update : As stated earlier our doubt about the RAM has been confirmed. Samsung Galaxy Beam has just 768 MB of RAM which happens to be 6 gigabits and not 6 GB.
