Geohot a.k.a George Hotz, the famous hacker who was first responsible for the hardware based unlock for the iPhone has made a comeback to hacking and has probably given up his job at Facebook.
Considered as one of the best hackers to ever work on the iPhone jailbreaks and unlocks the young hacker has been involved in a lot of significant work like producing the first ever unlock for iPhone, developing and releasing the Limera1n jailbreak tool which is still used as a jailbreak exploit and also hacking the Sony PlayStation 3 for which he was dragged to court by Sony.
Just when he has made enough new he was hired by the Social Networking giant Facebook for an unknown task since June 27, 2011. Just today on January 24, 2012, Hotz has quit Facebook, to join a start-up funded by Lady Gaga called Backplane.
According to few reports Geohot has completed his 6 month contract with Facebook and is now part of e Backplane venture. Backplane is actually a hackaton start-up, during the competition, Hotz built an application which showed where your Facebook friends were on a map at any time through their check-ins. Working alongside Aviv Ovadya, Geohot concentrated on extracting the API information and programming it into the location data.
Geohot, was surely one of the most famous name in the Jailbreak community and was missed by many iPhone lovers when he joined the Facebook. Now that he is not a part of Facebook, iOS lovers have kept their fingers crossed for him to join the Jailbreak community which would be very interesting.
