With the release of the iOS 5, Apple has added many security measure’s to make sure that the iDevice users are on the up to date firmware. Until now downgrading to iOS 5 was not possible using the SHSH blobs saved by Cydia or TinyUmbrella. Using the iFaith 1.4 created by iH8sn0w, you can downgrade to iOS 5 from iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.1 as long as you have the SHSH bolob saved and the APTicket.
iFaith works only on those devices which are susceptible to the limera1n exploit. Hence iPhone4S and iPad 2 cannot be used wit this tool as they are yet to be exploited. Also you must have the SHSH blob saved and also the APTicket.
How To Downgrade iOS 5.0.1 / iOS 5.1 To iOS 5 Firmware Using iFaith :
Step 1 : Download iFaith 1.4, the tool currently works on only Windows platform but we expect the Mac version to be out soon. Click here to download iFaith 1.4
Step 2 : Launch iFaith and click on Build *signed* IPSW w/Blobs
Step 3 : Browse and select the SHSH blobs that you have saved for your device and also browse for the stock firmware version that you want iFaith to create custom firmware for, and click on ‘Build IPSW’.
iFaith wil now create a custom firmware with the SHSH blobs included for the firmware you are downgrading to.
Step 4 : Follow the on screen instruction to put your device in the DFU mode.
Step 5 : Close iFaith and launch iTunes. Just select your device in the left hand menu hand menu and press left Shift on your keyboard before restoring to the older version.
That’s it, you have now successfully restored iOS 5 custom firmware for your device. Now all we are waiting for, is an Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.
