ChevronWP7 Labs was initially designed to help Windows Phone users to install, run, and debug unsigned applications on their personal Windows Phone. Later the team had after a legal battle with Microsoft had to stop distributing the tool as it was deemed illegal. Just moments ago the ChevronWP7 Team has re released the tool and this time with Microsoft’s approval.
Hence WP7 device users can use this tool without worrying about any legalities. This is a very important news for Windows Phone developers as it means that they no longer have to rely on emulators to test their Apps but they can sideload Apps on their real device installable via .xap files. Sideloading any App means installing it from an unsigned file and not directly installing it from the MarketPlace.
From ChevronWP7 Team :
Hey folks, we want to brief you on an important milestone we’ve reached.
Early this morning, we officially signed off on the final deployment of ChevronWP7 Labs. This marks the point in the development process where we leave the keys in the ignition and bail. Just kidding. Seriously though, we are very happy to announce the immediate availability of ChevronWP7 Labs.
Microsoft has lately acknowledged the importance of the Developer Community and also the the impact it has on the success of the mobile OS. The only requirement is that the developers have to pay a minimal fee of $ 9 for each device to be unlocked. You can reuse the token on the single device as many times as you wish. Also Developers must have a LiveID account in order to use this tool.
