Transferring files between computers running on same OS in a LAN is very easy. Many users must have used AD-HOC service which allows users to instantly create a network and share file’s on the Wi-Fi Network. Transfer On Lan is a very easy to use cross platform application which helps us to transfer files easily across systems running on different OS connected to the same LAN network.
The app also has the feature to have custom computer identification name for sharing files with others and also you can hide system name from its list, so that other connected clients can’t identify your system.
In order to use this cool App you need to install Transfer On LAN on all systems connected to LAN and after installation head to the Preferences tab and set your User name, Destination, Avatar image and Sound. You can also set your preferred Language, Appearance, Username, and Destination Folder. If you want to keep your system hidden from other users than just uncheck Appear in the List of users your system name wont appear on the list. Once done just click on Apply and head to Users.
In the Users panel you will the list of systems connected to your LAN. Just right click on the user to which you want to send the file and click on Send. Specify the file you want to send and that’s it, the App will begin the transfer process.
However when you initiate a file transfer the receiver will be notified and when the receiver acknowledges the transfer the process will begin. The files would be transferred to the Destination Folder you had earlier mentioned in the preferences tab.
Transfer On LAN requires JRE (Java Runtime Environment) to work. It supports Windows, Mac OS X and Linux based OS.
