Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is by far the most promising version of the Android OS. While officially this OS is available for only Galaxy Prime which will be available in November if you are very eager to use this version you can do so by installing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich On Your Galaxy Nexus S right now.
The update is not official instead it is an SDK port. There are team of developers who have ported the SDK right to your Galaxy Nexus S Android device. So you can expect it to have some bugs. Some of the bugs mentioned by the developers are regarding :
- Panorama Mode
- Camera will force close for the 1st time
- 3G(for some)

How To Install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich On Galaxy Nexus S :
Step 1 : You will loose all data while doing the upgrade so create a backup of your device and all important files and store it on your PC. We recommend making a backup in the SD card and than saving it in your PC.
Step 2 : Now you will have to Root your device. If you are new to Rooting than do not worry. The developers at the XDA Forums have created a a batch file, which is a file that executes a list of commands, that will handle your Rooting.
- Download the tool from here.
- Extract the contents to a folder on your Desktop.
- Connect your Galaxy Nexus S to your PC and install the required 32 bit / 64 bit driver on your device.
- Turn Off USB Debugging.
- Now Launch the run.bat file as an administrator and follow the on screen commands.
Once you are finished your Galaxy Nexus S will be rooted and you will have an Unlocked Bootloader and Clockwork Mod Recovery installed.
Step 3 : Now you have to install Ice Cream Sandwich on your device. You can download the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich from here.
Step 4 : Now copy the .zip file to the root folder of your Galaxy Nexus S.
Step 5 : Reboot into the Recovery Mode. You can do so easily by switch off your device and than switching it On while holding the Power + Volume Up button.
Step 6 : Once you enter the Clockwork Mod Recovery select wipe data/factory reset.
Step 7 : Than select install zip from sdcard option.
Step 8 : Now select the choose zip from sdcard option and toggle down to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich zip file which you had earlier downloaded and press the power button. By this you are confirming the installation of the new ROM and the device will reboot after the installation.
That’s it !! You are done with the upgrade. There are however some bugs in the new ROM so we recommend our readers to wait for the official release unless they are extremely eager to get this update.
