Before users get all excited about this new possibility the CynogenMod 7.1 Android 2.3.7 the CM Team have announced that the release is just an Alpha release and to lower your expectations. According to the CM Team :
those technically competent hobbyists and developers who are interested in testing an early development version and fully understand the risks of doing so may find interest in it
You waited more-or-less patiently for over a month, so at long last, here it is– an alpha version of CyanogenMod 7.1.0 (an enhanced version of Google’s Android 2.3) for the TouchPad.
Understand, this version is definitely an alpha, with all that implies. Those expecting perfection will be sorely disappointed. Many things won’t work as well as they will eventually. But you wanted it ASAP, and hopefully, this version should be somewhat useable and gives a sense of progress.
There are still some issues with the Alpha release like poor battery life and power management and compatibility with popular Apps. So now you are some idea about the CynogenMod 7.1 Alpha 1 based on Android 2.3.7 lets head straight to the guide.
What all files would be needed :
- Novacom for Windows / Mac / Linux for here.
- ACMEInstaller, CyanogenMod 7.1 and ClockworkMod Recovery from here.
- Moboot from here.
Step 1: Download and Install Novacom from the above link given for your OS and extract AMEInstaller in the directory where you have installed Novacom.
Step 2: Connect your HP TouchPad to your PC and when notified about device connected select USB Storage Device mode.
Step 3 : Now create a folder named cminstall on your HP Touchad device and transfer all files update-cm-7.1.0-tenderloin-a1-fullogbugs.zip, update-cwm_tenderloin-1012.zip, moboot_0.3.3.zip files to it
Step 4 : Now Reset your HP TouchPad. You can do this by going to Settings > Device Info > Reset.
Step 5 : Now hold the Power Up button until you see the USB Symbol your PC will now recognize your HP TouchPad device. This step usually takes some time.
Step 6 : Open the terminal application and head to the Novacom Folder with the necessary commands. The commands would depend on the OS you have.
Step 7 : Once you are at the Novacom folder enter the following command
novacom boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller
The CynogenMod 7.1 Alpha 1 based on Android 2.3.7 will now be installed on your device. Just wait till the process is over and enjoy the new OS on our HP ToucPad.
Installing any other Android based Apps (although much are not supported) is also an easy process. All you have to do is download and transfer the App file to the root directory of your HP TouchPad. And boot into ClockworkMod Recovery mode and then choose install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > [your App .zip file ].
