HP TouchPad was abandoned by HP as the sales of the TouchPad and WebOS were rather poor. It was WebOS which was mainly regarded as the reason for TouchPad’s failure. Soon afterwards the TouchDroid Project was launched to shift the TouchPad to be completely compatible with Android. The CynogenMod Team has been working hard to make a public release capable CM7 to add Android functionality to TouchPad. Until now all we had seen was just demoes which didnt work good in the real world. Until Now ….
The CynogenMod Team has finally unleashed the CynogenMod 7 Alpha 1 to run Android 2.3 on the TouchPad. With some tweaks and enhancements in the hardware and the software segment on HP TouchPad. The CM Team also enhanced the GPU acceleration, Wi-Fi, Accelerometer, Sound, Video Acceleration and 3D Games to ensure proper portability.
However the CM Team has also announced all users to lower their expectations with this release as they have stated that this release is only for the
those technically competent hobbyists and developers who are interested in testing an early development version and fully understand the risks of doing so may find interest in it
You waited more-or-less patiently for over a month, so at long last, here it is– an alpha version of CyanogenMod 7.1.0 (an enhanced version of Google’s Android 2.3) for the TouchPad.
Understand, this version is definitely an alpha, with all that implies. Those expecting perfection will be sorely disappointed. Many things won’t work as well as they will eventually. But you wanted it ASAP, and hopefully, this version should be somewhat useable and gives a sense of progress.
HP have always supported the Project of shifting their TouchPad devices to Android but our readers are notified that installing CM 7 will void the warranty of their devices. For more information about CM 7 Alpha 1 see the video :
The supported Hardware includes touchscreen support, GPU acceleration, Bluetooth, dual-core processing, sound, accelerometer, camera, vibration, backlight, LED, softkeys, and Wi-Fi. However they arent working with 100% perfection but it is a start and we can expect complete compatibility soon.
