This one has come as a major sigh of relief for all Apple enthusiasts and iPad 2 users particularly. Yesterday we had reported that JailbreakMe.com the popular online service which was created by Nichols Allegra a.k.a Comex has been sold to some untrusted source and now the Dev community would be hosting the service in Jailbreaks.Me. Now the domain name has been transferred to the creator of Cydia, Saurik.
JailBreakMe.com, domain was originally owned by Conceited Apps, an organization dedicated to create apps fr iOS and OS X devices. They had lent their domain to Comex to host his popular service. JailbreakMe 3.0 was launched in July and since then has helped more than 2 million users to Jailbreak their device and is till now the only way to Jailbreak iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.3.
MuscleNerd, one of the eminent member of the Jailbreak community had yesterday Tweeted that Conceited Apps have sold this domain to some “unknown, untrusted and unsafe” source and hence requested all iDevice users to stay away from the site as it may be used to spread malware.
Now today according to some developments the creater of Cydia, Jay saurik Freeman has bought back the domain from the untrusted source and can now be used by all iDevice users to Jailbrak their device.
From Saurik’s Twitter account:
Yesterday, we learned that jailbreakme.com was sold in July; today, I talked with the new owner: he is actually very likable and awesome. ;P
…and tonight, jailbreakme.com was transferred to me (convenient, as I host the site ;P); so, going forward, we no longer need to worry!
Saurik is by far the most important member of the iOS Dev Community. He has created the three most important tools of Jailbreak and i.e. Cydia : an App store for Jailbroken devices, WinterBoard : a theme system which helps you to change your iOS looks and MobileSubstrate which allows third party UI tweaks to be installed on your device.
JailbreakMe.com was used by the 19-year old eminent iPhone hacker, Comex. He used the software based PDF exploit which allowed all iOS 4.3.3 users to Jailbreak their device at just one click. By now this is the only method by which you can Jailbreak your iPad 2 running on 4.3.3. Later on with the iOS 4.3.4, Apple had patched up their PDF exploit but nevertheless this service has been used by almost millions of users by then. Later on Nicholas Comex Allegra joined Apple as an intern and will now work to provide better security in the iOS devices.
All our readers can have a sigh of relief as they can use this service now just like it was available for such a long time.
