Lets just forget about competition but we even doubt that there would be any other Tablet that can afford to exist in this segment. Indian Government has came up with yet another cheap alternative of expensive devices for its not so well off population. India’s HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has announced that the $ 35 tablet would be available to Indian students in the month of October.
Built by AllGo Embedded Systems, Banglore this tablet is poised as an Indian answer to the $ 100 laptop that MIT students had built. The most interesting fact is that it is not just a broad calculator based system but this device also has the potential to compete in the average segment on commercial basis.
So what are the Specifications of the $ 35 Tablet :
- 7″ Touch Screen tablet with Android OS.
- 32 GB Internal memory.
- 2 GB RAM
- 2 USB ports and video conferencing capability
- Mini SD card slot along with a SIM card slot for 3G access
- Wi-Fi and 3G enabled
Surely those are very impressive specification if we just consider the price. The price of the Tablet when converted into INR it would be around INR 1600 but the Indian Government has announced to subsidize it so that it would be available to Indian Students at just INR. 1100. This tablet would be available commercially on 5th October and HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has mentioned that the device would be available exclusively to Indian Students only.
This device not only is a commercial but also a technological breakthrough. Considering that electronics manufacturing and fabrication industries are not flourished in India being able to provide such specifications at such dirt cheap price is surely an astounding task.
Being an Indian this will make us proud of the technical knowledge and prowess we have achieved. However on an ironic note Indian Government has recently given free iPad 2 to all Member Of Parliament.
